O’s red carpet campaign: millions down the drain

The Issue: Hollywood’s support for Pres. Obama, including George Clooney’s recent fund-raiser.

***

It’s pleasing to see President Obama’s poll numbers drop days after his $40,000-per-ticket fund-raiser at George Clooney’s house (“‘Shaking’ the Celeb $$ Tree,” May 12).

Clooney was probably dreaming of Obama-Clooney bumper stickers and campaign posters. How deflated he must feel now, seeing that we don’t actually care what he thinks.

Clooney is a movie star and nothing else.

Here’s an idea for the Hollywood crowd: Instead of donating to Obama’s campaign, how about putting some of that money into making a decent movie?

Millions of people are out of work, yet the Hollywood liberal cabal had a huge bash at Clooney’s estate for Obama — the idea being that he needs so much money to fight Mitt Romney, the Republican ogre.

Obama and his Hollywood fans can raise a billion dollars, and it won’t help him a bit in November.

In fact, it is more likely that this soiree will cost Obama votes, as hard-working Americans look askance at this vulgar display of wealth.

Just think how the elitist media would react if Romney had such an event. I’m certain there would be nothing but scorn hurled at him.

Then again, there is no real conservative counterpart to liberal Hollywood.

Obama loves hanging out with the beautiful people at their lavish fund-raisers, where a seat at the table can cost thousands of dollars.

Meanwhile, it’s the poor and middle class who suffer the most from his wasteful spending and anti-capitalist policies.

When I hear the president demand that the rich “pay their fair share,” I know he is not serious about solving America’s problems — but he is very serious about getting re-elected.
