Correction captain facing charges in sick ‘dog starve’

She wouldn’t throw her dog a bone.

A Department of Correction captain is to appear in Brooklyn Criminal court today to face charges that she nearly starved to death her 4-year-old white American bulldog, The Post has learned.

Authorities had been called before to the Brooklyn home of Capt. Lucia Smith, 43, to investigate a complaint of a “dog so thin its bones were showing,” a source said.

ASPCA agents were called back to Smith’s home on April 17 and arrested the officer for forgetting to show her pooch, Cupid, some love.

Smith was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and faces up to one year in jail.

She hung up on a Post reporter seeking comment.

Cupid was taken to an ASPCA hospital and gained 11 pounds.

“This pet was starved and neglected for some time,” said Jospeh Pentangelo, a spokesman for the ASPCA. “Luckily we were able to treat the dog and get it back to proper health.”
