2nd Ave. noise fix could cost MTA millions

A good night’s sleep is priceless — unless it’s along the Second Avenue Subway, in which case it costs $2.2 million.

That’s what the cash-strapped MTA is ready to pay one of the project’s main contractors after rearranging the construction schedule to reduce late-night blasting, which was keeping Upper East Siders wide awake.

Transit bigs plan on asking the agency’s board to approve the hefty payout to SSK Constructors JV on Wednesday, according to MTA documents.

The money is needed to pay costs that increased following the MTA’s blast ban — forcing one contractor to bring hardhats in an hour early every day. SSK also had to bring in extra workers to get all of the blasting done by 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the MTA is also requesting approval of a special air- filtration system at the 86th Street construction site — which will hopefully eliminate the prairie-style dust storms that engulfed the 72nd Street construction site.

It will cost the MTA $597,000, documents show.
