Elton John hospitalized, forced to cancel Las Vegas shows

LOS ANGELES — Sir Elton John was hospitalized with a serious respiratory infection and forced to cancel a number of performances, according to a report Thursday.

The 65-year-old British singer was admitted to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital at 6:00am local time Wednesday and was told by doctors that he must cancel four concerts this weekend in Las Vegas in order to rest, TMZ reported.

Following a series of tests, the “Rocket Man” star was told he needed “complete rest and antibiotic treatment to prevent damage.”

Sir Elton told the gossip website, “It feels strange not to be able to perform these ‘Million Dollar Piano’ concerts at the Colosseum … I love performing the show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts.”

“All I can say to the fans is ‘sorry I can’t be with you,'” he added.

Caesars Palace, home to the Colosseum theater, confirmed Thursday that his weekend shows were canceled and said that the singer would return to the venue later this year.

He was believed to have been released from the hospital, TMZ reported.
