‘B’klyn Butcher’ gains at least 50 pounds at Rikers

Time to hit the prison yard, butcher.

The food at Rikers Island is clearly doing a number on the waistline of accused child-killer Levi Aron, whose enormous gut spilled over his sweatpants during a brief court appearance today in Brooklyn.

The so-called Butcher of Borough Park, who is charged with killing and dismembering 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky after snatching him off a Borough Park Street last year, has clearly ballooned at least 50 pounds since his last court appearance in March.

“He’s definitely not working out,” quipped a lawyer who was in the courtroom when Aron appeared by video hookup from Rikers Island.

The alleged madman, who is charged with first-degree murder, was a relatively svelte 172 pounds when he was arrested last year following a massive search for the lost little boy.

But Aron, who stands 5-foot-8, was looking a lot beefier as he sat silently in a room at the city jail while his lawyers hashed out dates for his next court appearance.

Little Leiby was walking alone to meet his mother after leaving a yeshiva day camp last July 11 when he got lost and asked for directions from Aron, who then took him home, authorities charge.

The supply store worker has confessed to smothering Leiby in a panic, then cutting him him up and depositing his body parts in Dumpsters.

“I understand this may be wrong and I’m sorry for hurt that I’ve caused,” Aron wrote in his July 2011 confession.

Levi’s parents did not appear in court today, and Aron’s lawyers declined comment.

Aron’s next court appearance was set for July 27, when his defense team expects to receive the results of his mental health exam from their psychiatrist.

Defense lawyer Howard Greenberg has said he intends to pursue an insanity defense for Aron.
