‘How Deep Is Your Love’ is Robin Gibb’s dying wish

LONDON — Pop legend Robin Gibb made a dying wish for the Bee Gees’ classic hit “How Deep Is Your Love” to be the first song played at his funeral.

Gibb, who died of cancer Sunday night aged 62, made the request to son Spencer, 40, as he lay on his deathbed.

“How Deep Is Your Love” was penned by Gibb and his brothers Maurice and Barry, who made up the chart-topping group.

The track, which featured in hit movie “Saturday Night Fever,” topped the charts in America and reached No. 3 in the UK in 1977.

A close friend said, “It’s a beautiful song, penned by a beautiful person. It couldn’t be more appropriate when we all say goodbye.”

Gibb was diagnosed with colon cancer and then liver cancer following surgery on his bowel 18 months ago for an unrelated condition.

He fell into a coma last month after contracting pneumonia but astounded loved ones by fighting back.

But he grew weaker and needed a tracheotomy, which left him unable to speak. He communicated with his family by blinking.

Second wife Dwina, 59, sons Robin-John, 29, and Spencer and daughter Melissa, 37, were at his bedside when he died in a London hospital.
