Family of alleged Whitey Bulger murder victim helping screenwriter with biopic

BOSTON — The brother of a woman allegedly murdered by James “Whitey” Bulger is helping a screenwriter with a film about the South Boston mobster.

Steven Davis, whose 26-year-old sister Debbie was killed in 1981, is helping writer/director Paul Hapenny with “Boston,” the story of the Davis’ interactions with Bulger and his partner Stephen Flemmi.

Debbie Davis was Flemmi’s girlfriend. She was allegedly strangled by Bulger and her body was discovered along the banks of the Neponset River in Quincy, Mass.

Steven Davis told myFOXboston that “Boston” tells his whole life story, from his own troubles with the law, to his relationship with his sister, Debbie, to Bulger’s arrest in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.

There is no deal yet for “Boston,” but he said there is interest in Hollywood and New York.

Steven Davis said if “Boston” is picked up, he plans to share whatever money he makes with the families of other victims in the Bulger-Flemmi case.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are also working on a film about the notorious Boston gangster. Affleck, 39, will direct the as-yet-untitled film, with Damon, 41, starring as Bulger.

Bulger, 82, is set to go to trial in November. The murder of Debbie Davis is among the 19 murder charges he faces.

Flemmi, 76, is serving a life sentence for 10 murders.
