Suspect arrested after shooting rampage in Finland leaves two dead, seven injured

HYVINKAA, Finland — An 18-year-old man was arrested Saturday after two people were killed and seven others were wounded when a gunman opened fire in the center of a Finnish town.

Police said a man was seen wearing camouflage-colored leather while firing about 20 times with a rifle near restaurants and markets, hbl.fi reported.

The incident occurred at 1:53 a.m. local time in the city of Hyvinkaa, about 32 miles north of Helsinki.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a woman with her face covered in blood and heard her scream before she dropped to the ground.

The Finnish news agency reported that an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman died in the shooting.

The arrested man does not have a previous criminal record, nor did he resist his arrest close to Hyvinkaa, AFP reported.

Police added that the suspect was not in possession of any gun permits.
