Giants’ Umenyiora says Super Bowl not Jets’ top priority

Now that he knows he’s going to remain with the Giants for at least one more season, Osi Umenyiora has no problem speaking out on the team that shares MetLife Stadium, saying the Giants “do things a little differently’’ than the Jets.

“We go out there on the football field and play,” Umenyiora said last night on NFL Network’s “Total Access.” “The Jets, they’re a good football team themselves, but they have a lot of things going on that a lot of people are interested in, and they’re more interested in that than us going out there and actually winning the Super Bowl.

“So, there’s nothing wrong with that. Much respect to the New York Jets. Hopefully, things will keep on going that way.”

During the contract disharmony last year, Umenyiora accused general manager Jerry Reese in a sworn affidavit of reneging on a promise to come up with a new multi-year contract or else trade him.

“Me and Jerry have always been cool,” Umenyiora said. “Obviously, business is business, and out here, in this type of atmosphere, sometimes you have to do some things to get your point across. But at the end of the day, I understood him, he understood me and we just were able to move forward.”
