3 STARS
1. Adam Henrique
With the Devils facing elimination in a 1-1 game, Henrique scored off a great cross-ice pass by David Clarkson with 4:31 remaining in the third period. It turned out be the game-winner, Henrique’s third game-winner of the playoffs.
2. Drew Doughty
After the Devils scored the game’s first goal in the third period, Doughty answered 1:02 later on the power play. He also made a great pass to Dustin Penner, who had a breakaway and got the puck through Martin Brodeur’s legs but it went just wide of the goal.
3. Martin Brodeur
After losing three consecutive games, Brodeur responded with a big effort. He had 21 saves, including stopping a couple of breakaways, and kept the Devils’ Stanley Cup dream alive.
KEY MOMENT
In the third period of a 1-1 tie, Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov failed while attempting to pinch, and L.A.’s Dustin Penner gained control of the puck and had a breakaway. He missed the net short side on Martin Brodeur, and Henrique scored the eventual game-winner four minutes later.
TO QUOTE…
“We wanted to make them jump on a plane and come to New Jersey. We had to go anyway, so, we might as well get a game over there. I’m sure they’re not happy to make that trip. We’ll try to make it miserable for them.”
— Martin Brodeur
