This tourist had a hot time in the city all right.
A Norwegian man was nabbed for setting two fires yesterday inside a Midtown hotel, authorities said.
Tore Brox, 29, is charged with two counts of arson and two counts of reckless endangerment for sparking blazes inside the New Yorker Hotel on Eighth Avenue and 34th Street, said fire officials.
“Arson is a very serious crime with potentially deadly consequences,” said Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano.
“The quick actions by our firefighters at this fire prevented a potential tragedy and the tremendous investigative work by our Fire Marshals quickly brought this individual to justice.”
A fire was reported inside the 20th floor of the hotel at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, and responding firefighters discovered two separate pockets of flame – one in the east wing hallway and another in a housekeeping cart in the west wing hallway.
They were quickly extinguished and marshals soon determined that Brox, who was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries but later fled, was the suspect. He was apprehended later that evening.
Brox was drunk at the time of the incident and may have been set off after arguing with other hotel guests, fire sources said.
He was in town on vacation, officials said.
