HOOPS: Arkansas shocks No.2 Florida

BJ Young led three Arkansas players in double figures with 13 points as the Razorbacks (14-8, 5-4 SEC) opened quickly and never let up in a shocking 80-69 victory over No. 2 Florida (18-3, 8-1) last night in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tim Hardaway Jr. brought Michigan back with a relentless streak of 3-point shooting, then blocked a shot by Aaron Craft in the final seconds of overtime to give the third-ranked Wolverines a 76-74 victory over visiting No. 10 Ohio State.

The Rockets tied an NBA record and set a franchise mark with 23 3-pointers in a 140-109 win over the visiting Warriors. Jeremy Lin, who had 28 points, sank five 3-pointers, a career high.

NFL: Superdome folks still in dark about blackout

Concerned the Superdome might not be able to handle the energy needed for its first Super Bowl since Hurricane Katrina, officials spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on upgrades to decayed utility lines, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.

The improvements apparently weren’t enough, however, to prevent an embarrassing and puzzling 34-minute power outage during the third quarter of the game between the Ravens and 49ers on Sunday. Officials still have not pinpointed the cause of the outage and will hire an outside agency to find the cause.

The Eagles will not release QB Michael Vick before a Wednesday deadline that guarantees him $3 million, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The Eagles aren’t expected to bring Vick back at his $15.5 million salary.

ETC.: Cards’ Carpenter likely to miss 2013

The Cardinals said Chris Carpenter almost certainly won’t pitch in 2013 after a recurrence of a nerve injury that cost him most of last season.

Reliever Kyle Farnsworth and second baseman-outfielder Kelly Johnson finalized one-year contracts with the Rays.

The Red Bulls signed midfielder Dax McCarty to a new contract.
