A Nor’easter is likely to dump several inches of snow in the New York City area and up to eight inches in areas north and east of the city starting on Friday.
The National Weather Service has issed a Winter Storm Watch for virtually the entire New York metropolitan area, including the city, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and all of Connecticut.
The storm will start as a rain and snow mix, according to Fox 5 meteorologist Mike Woods.
As the day progresses, it will likely turn to an all snow event and continue into Saturday.
The snowfall totals across the city and Central New Jersey are expected to be between 2-4″. Northern New Jersey could see 6″.
Westchester and other northern suburbs could see 8″ of snow.
Areas to the north and parts of Connecticut could see more than a 1′ of snow.
However, forecasting this storm is difficult because of several factors. The computer models are not in agreement yet. One model has New York City getting mostly rain, while another has the city getting slammed with 2′ of snow.
