A-Rod ‘very optimistic’ about arbitration case

Judging by the Yankees’ spree of recent signings, the team appears hopeful Alex Rodriguez’s contract will be off the books for 2014 as he faces a 211-game, Biogenesis-related ban from Major League Baseball. Rodriguez thinks otherwise.

He told reporters in the Dominican Republic he is upbeat about his pending case against MLB, though he couldn’t elaborate.

“All I can say about this case — I cannot say much — we are very optimistic,” Rodriguez said in Spanish on Thursday after meeting with Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina, according to Mexican newspaper El Universal.

Rodriguez, in Santo Domingo to take part in David Ortiz’s Celebrity Golf Classic, met in the president’s palace for about a half an hour with Medina — who says he is a Yankees fan. They spoke about “various areas related to baseball,” a statement from the president’s office said.

“We are very happy of how things were in the process. I cannot talk anymore,” Rodriguez said, according to the newspaper.
