There’s no more expensive stroll in America than a walk down the aisle in Manhattan.
A Manhattan wedding in 2012 cost the average couple a dowry-busting $76,687, by far the most expensive of any geographic area in the United States, according to nuptials-planning Web sites TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com.
In contrast, an average wedding in the No. 2 city, Chicago, cost $49,810.
The Manhattan figure represents a 16.5 percent increase from 2011, also the biggest year-to-year spike found by TheKnot.
Lovebirds can score a moderate deal in central or northern New Jersey, saying “I do” for $49,496, or on Long Island for $49,002.
Nuptials in the Hudson Valley go for about $46,300.
The best near-to-Manhattan wedding deals appear to be in the outer boroughs, where nuptials might only cost $39,602, and southern New Jersey at $35,375.
