Party boy Andrew W.K.’s tips for rocking out

It’s often said New Year’s Eve is amateur night. So if the thought of partying with lightweights and flakes puts you off celebrating on Tuesday, then the simple solution is to head to Irving Plaza and party with a professional.

Since bursting onto the music scene in 2001 with his debut album, “I Get Wet” — which included such songs as “Party Hard” and “Party Till You Puke” — Andrew W.K. has been deadly serious about two things: rock ’n’ roll and having a good time. He’s so committed to the pursuit that in 2008, he invested in his own Manhattan club and music venue, Santos Party House.

“In all my years of being a professional partier, this is the first time I’ve played a New Year’s Eve concert,” he tells The Post. “Of all the nights [my band’s] party prowess could be effective, that would be the night. But then again, it’s New Year’s Eve at [all of] our shows. We play with that intensity every night.”

Even if you can’t make the show, Mr. W.K. (short for Wilkes-Krier) is keen to make sure that everyone has a good time no matter where they go. Here’s his guide to the best way to party on New Year’s Eve.

How to party at your own house party

“You definitely need a lot of trash cans. This is something I have experience in. Make sure they are placed everywhere, almost as though it were a trash can party. It’s a small thing, but it makes a difference.

“It’s also a good idea to keep certain rooms off-limits, because, as the party gets crazier, you might find people sleeping in your bed. Or doing something else in your bed that doesn’t involve sleeping.

“Food doesn’t have to be pre-planned. We have so many options in New York, so why bother with cooking when you can order something in? It adds to the spontaneity.”

How to party at someone else’s house party

“I would advise doing a little planning. For example, does the place you’re going to have pets? Are you allergic? Will the pets attack?

“Think about your host. It’s a nice gesture to bring something to drink, especially if it’s a drink you prefer. Don’t assume your favorite drink will be provided. It’s important to help out your host with cleaning, too.”

How to party at the club

“This is where it gets unpredictable, because you have to interact with strangers. Research is advisable; dress codes and house rules are good to check out. But the fact that you are interacting with strangers also makes it more exciting. The hook-up potential is huge. You could have a life-changing experience. But going out to clubs is definitely best suited to people who want to hear music and dance. There’s no house party that can compete with the sound system in a club.”

How to party with a celebrity

“Going out with the idea to party with a celebrity is setting yourself up for disappointment. That being said, one tip I have is to hit up a strip club. Sometimes they have parties that are hosted by adult entertainment stars. For example, my wife is a big fan of Jenna Jameson and one time, she was at the Penthouse Club where Jenna was hosting. She let everyone take a picture and chat.”

How to party on your own

“Partying on your own is not only fun, it’s crucial. The best role model is Kevin McAllister, Macaulay Culkin’s character from “Home Alone.” He makes ice cream sundaes, he orders pizza all for himself, he watches movies. Doing those kind of things is the best way to understand what makes you, you.”
