Mets’ Harvey tweets that he’ll be back ‘next year for April 1,’ but that still seems like long shot

Rarely has a tweet been more encouraging for Mets fans.

But unfortunately, just as misleading.

Pitching phenom Matt Harvey, one day removed from the devastating news he has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, thanked his supporters and put on a brave, optimistic face yesterday when he wrote on Twitter, “Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I may be done this year, but I will be back next year for April 1.”

April 1. That’s not that far off, right?

“If that’s his tweet, that’s his tweet,” said general manager Sandy Alderson, who flatly claimed there was no miracle cure or flow of overly optimistic information overnight and nothing had changed. “Not to my knowledge.”
