Exec: I bribed Hiram

An amusement-company operator pleaded guilty yesterday to bribing former state Sen. Hiram Monserrate for help in securing permits to run carnivals across the city.

Lawrence Carr, 69, admitted in Brooklyn federal court that he had committed bribery and then lied when asked about it by FBI agents.

The payoffs consisted of checks written to a nonprofit organization connected to the embattled Queens Democrat, authorities said.

Brooklyn federal prosecutors say that in 2006 an unnamed public official wrote several letters supporting Carr’s applications, and then on several occasions Carr was given permission to operate his carnivals.

The official was Monserrate, sources say, with Carr endorsing a $5,000 check to a nonprofit connected to the Jackson Heights politician.

Monserrate was convicted on unrelated charges. Carr faces up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced on Aug. 21.
