NBA: Wade’s left knee worse than was known

In an interview with the Associated Press, Heat star Dwayne Wade revealed his right knee pained him so much he contemplated asking to play limited minutes in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, and that his left knee was drained and required about eight hours of game-day therapy just so he could play in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The Clippers have intensified discussions with Byron Scott about their head coaching position, league sources told ESPN.com.

In Toronto, Jose Bautista hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning and the Blue Jays won their 10th straight game yesterday, beating the Orioles 4-2.

In Detroit, Max Scherzer won his 11th straight decision to start the season and Victor Martinez hit a first-inning grand slam to lead the Tigers to a 10-3 victory over the Red Sox.

AUTOS: Driver killed in crash at Le Mans

In Paris, Danish driver Allan Simonsen died yesterday following a crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the first driver fatality at the high-speed endurance event since 1997.

Race organizers said the 34-year-old Simonsen was taken to the hospital after his Aston Martin No. 95 crashed about 10 minutes into the race. The Dane spun at high speed and his car skidded into the barrier at the Tertre Rouge corner where cars typically reach speeds of up to 170 kph (105 mph). Simonsen died at the hospital.

SOCCER: Hernandez leads Mexico to Cup win

Javier Hernandez sent Mexico home from the Confederations Cup on a high by scoring twice to clinch a 2-1 victory over Japan in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in its final Group A match.

In Salvador, Brazil, Neymar scored his third goal in three matches and Fred added two others as Brazil defeated Italy 4-2 to finish atop Group A of the Confederations Cup.

ETC: Watson in three-way tie for lead

In Cromwell, Conn., Bubba Watson bogeyed three of his last six holes to help create a three-way tie after three rounds at the Travelers Championship. Watson, Graham DeLaet, and Charley Hoffman are all at 10-under. Watson shot an even-par 70. U.S. Open champ Justin Rose, sits at 7-under par after a second straight 68.

In Rogers, Ark., Stacy Lewis shot a 6-under 65 and join a group of four players atop the leaderboard at 10 under after the second round of the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship.

In Glenview, Ill., Craig Stadler grabbed the outright lead at the Encompass Championship with a 7-under 65 that put him two shots ahead of Bob Tway and Jeff Sluman.

In Munich, Alexander Levy overcame two bogeys to shoot a 4-under 68 to pull into a three-way tie with Ernie Els and Alex Noren at the BMW International Open.

In Des Moines, Iowa, Brianna Rollins set an American record in the 100-meter hurdles at the U.S. track championships finishing in 12.26 seconds to break the mark of Gail Devers in 2000.
