Witnesses shocked as man jumps to his death from RFK Bridge

A man in his 30s leapt to his death this morning from the RFK Bridge, in front of stunned eyewitnesses.

Drivers saw the man jump around 8 a.m., and called 911, police said. Rescuers found the man’s body in the water and pronounced him dead at 8:30 a.m., police said.

Witnesses were aghast as the horror unfolded.

“I was sitting there in the park, having my morning coffee and then I heard this splash and I looked up and I saw a body in the water,” said Nikos Apostolakis, 44, from Astoria.”He looked like he was in his 30s to 40s. In the beginning I didn’t even know someone had jumped. I just saw something floating. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this.”

Police are withholding the victim’s identity pending family notification. Witnesses said he wore a blue short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
