Wallenda is ‘high’ on Manhattan

He conquered the Grand Canyon, but can high-wire ace Nik Wallenda walk across the concrete canyons of Manhattan?

After his heart-stopping feat of walking a quarter-mile across the Grand Canyon on a 2-inch-wide tightrope last night, Wallenda said he next wants to stroll the skies between the Empire State and Chrysler buildings — a space of some nine city blocks.

If he gets permission, the walk would be 4,000 feet, more than triple the length of his Grand Canyon stunt.

He gave no indication if he had yet made any attempt to get permission to perform the feat.

In last night’s high-wire act — watched by millions live on television — the 34-year-old Wallenda walked 1,500 feet above the Little Colorado River Gorge, part of the Navajo Nation’s reservation, without a safety harness.

He took about 22 minutes as winds whipped around him and the rope swayed.

“Thank you, Lord. Thank you for calming that cable, God,” he said about 13 minutes into the walk.
