Pedestrian struck by cab in Midtown

A pedestrian was seriously injured in Midtown this afternoon after he was struck by a speeding cab that had hit another taxi at West 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue, cops and witnesses said.

The two cabs were heading south on Seventh around 4 p.m. when one in the middle lane gunned the engine and tried to turn left onto West 52nd, striking the other cab, which was in the left lane, witnesses said.

The speeding cab then hit a light pole and a man walking on the sidewalk.

“The one taxi was going so fast, I don’t know if he saw the other guy. If that pole wasn’t there, the person on the street would be dead,” said Harun Rashid, who sells posters from a stand on Seventh Avenue.

The unidentified pedestrian suffered serious injuries but was listed in stable condition at the hospital, cops said. The cabbie who allegedly struck him was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Airbags on both cabs — neither of which was carrying passengers — deployed in the violent wreck.

“Both cars were here on Seventh Avenue, and the car in the center lane turned and – BOOM! – hit the other. The man walking got hurt very bad,” said Sam Elsedy, another Seventh Avenue street vendor.
