Josh Hartnett (“Black Hawk Down”) will star in Showtime’s psychological horror story “Penny Dreadful” — his first TV series since ABC’s short-lived “Cracker” in 1997.
Hartnett’s co-star will be rising actress Eva Green (“Casino Royale”).
The London-based show will start filming this fall and is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
Hartnett will play Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself haunting the darkest corners of Victorian London.
Green is cast as Vanessa Ives, a seductress whose beauty hides a past of secrets and danger.
The show was created by Oscar nominee John Logan (“Gladiator”) and derives its title from the popular 19th century novels that were printed on cheap paper and usually featured lurid serial stories (they cost one penny).
