‘The Doctors’ star ramps up for book launch

Dr. Ian Smith (“The Doctors”) is ramping up for the launch of “Super Shred: The Big Results Diet,” the sequel to his 2012 best-seller, “Shred: The Revolutionary Diet,” which spurred a “Shredder Nation” craze on Facebook and Twitter.

Smith, who joined “The Doctors” this season — and will promote the book on that show (9 a.m./Ch. 55) has upcoming appearances on “Good Morning America,” “Rachael Ray” and “Live with Kelly and Michael” to get the word out about “Super Shred,” which is out Dec. 31. In the book, Smith “distills his successful diet plan into a concentrated, shorter program,” says publisher St. Martins.

More Ch. 55: The CBS-owned station (WLNY) will air the Yule Log, in high-def, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, then from 10 p.m. to midnight and again from 6 to 9 a.m. Wednesday with John Elliott, Carolina Bermudez and Jill Nicolini hosting.

‘Music’ still resonating

It looks like NBC’s live airing of “The Sound of Music” (Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer et al.) impacted ABC’s Sunday-night broadcast of the 1965 “Sound of Music” movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer — in a good way.

ABC’s telecast averaged 6.5 million viewers from 8 to 11 p.m. While that was nowhere near the 18.5 million who watched NBC’s live broadcast on Thursday, Dec. 5, it was the movie’s best viewership on ABC in six years — and it was also up 25 percent from last year in total viewers while reaching a three-year high in adults 18-49.

More programming: President Obama’s end-of-year press conference last Friday preempted his own interview/appearance on Steve Harvey’s talk show, “Steve Harvey” — which has now rescheduled the interview to air this Friday (3 p.m./Ch. 4).

And, starting at noon Tuesday, MSG Network celebrates “Knickmas” with a 24-hour block of Knicks programming hosted by Walt “Clyde” Frazier. The marathon features Knicks-related episodes from MSG original programs, including “Beginnings,” “The Game 365,” “MSG’s Vault,” “The Bracket” and “MSG ProFiles” and a look back in Knicks history with “Lost and Found: The ’73 Knicks Championship Tape.”

Last, but not least . . .

Producers for Fox’s “MasterChef Junior,” which was just renewed for Season 2, will be here Saturday, Jan. 18 (6-10 a.m., location TBD) scouting for contestants. Masterchefjuniorcasting.com has details.
