INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

YANKEES: The once-promising Hughes is finishing out his Yankees contract on

a sour note. The right-hander is coming off a 4¹/3-inning, four-run struggle against the Tigers in a 9-3 loss. He has lost nine of his last 11 decisions since May 15, with a 5.29 ERA in the stretch.

ANGELS: The steady Wilson has had a few uncharacteristically poor starts in the past two weeks. He last started Saturday against the Indians, when he couldn’t escape the sixth inning, scattering seven hits and four walks, while allowing just two runs in 5¹/3 innings in a 7-2 win. In his past three starts, the left-hander holds a 5.94 ERA.

STAT SO?

YANKEES: Hughes’ 8.38 ERA in eight lifetime appearances (five starts) against the Angels represents his highest ERA versus any team he has started at least two games against.

ANGELS: Wilson boasts a nice stat line against the Yankees. Though he’s only 2-3 in seven starts, the left-hander owns a 3.34 ERA and .229 batting average-against versus the Bombers.
