Yankees’ Stewart has two-strike strikeout

Catcher Chris Stewart was given a strikeout in the second inning despite tallying just two strikes. Home-plate umpire Jim Wolf made the errant ruling after Stewart looked at a ball from Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen, fouled a ball off and swung through for what should have been strike two.

Stewart said he didn’t realize Wolf’s mistake until the top of the third inning, when Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long notified him.

“The important thing is we ended up winning,” Stewart said. He added, laughing, “My first two-strike strikeout in my career. I would’ve hit a home run if he hadn’t called me out.”
