Queens businessmen busted for trying to bribe politician

A trio of conniving Queens businessmen were busted after they allegedly tried to bribe an honest City Council member into supporting their application for a lucrative liquor license.

Department of Investigation officials arrested Davinder Singh, 37; Rajinder Singh, 26; and Tarsem Singh after they allegedly gave $2,500 to an undercover agent they thought represented Queens Council member Donovan Richards.

Richards, who was voted into office in a special election in February, sparked the sting after the men allegedly offered him cash to reverse his opposition to their store.

The community was opposed to the license because it would have allowed booze to be sold just blocks away from a group of high schools.

“When I was elected, I promised my constituents that I would carry myself with the utmost integrity,” Richards told The Post.

“May these arrests show those who seek to bribe public officials that our communities and children aren’t for sale.”
