Harvey goes back on radio to apologize for dud

Matt Harvey came out of the bullpen to redeem himself after a miserable outing.

One day after the injured Mets ace was roasted for a painfully awkward interview on “The Dan Patrick Show” in which he declined to talk baseball and insisted on trying to promo — emphasis on trying — for the wireless company Qualcomm, Harvey called back in to Patrick’s show on Thursday and apologized.

“Been going through a lot, and just want to apologize,” said Harvey, who is sidelined with a partial ligament tear in his right elbow and eventually may require Tommy John surgery. “I was on the way to a doctor’s appointment and I was kind of flustered with the whole thing. I feel really bad.”

The mockery of Harvey on social media was sudden and brutal.

“Definitely my worst day on Twitter in a while,” he said. “Obviously having some bad starts, you hear a lot of things, but yesterday kind of topped the cake.”

In the follow-up interview Thursday, Harvey finally talked about his plans to rehab the elbow injury. Patrick referenced a video Harvey did for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” before the All-Star Game in mentioning he thought Harvey would have more sense of humor.

“That wasn’t me yesterday,” Harvey said. “That wasn’t me at all. … I was thinking about it all day yesterday, knowing the interview I gave you was completely awkward and it’s not the person I am.”
