‘True Evel’ takes look at Knievel

’70s pop-culture icon Evel Knievel will be the subject of a documentary airing next month on Discovery, according to Deadline.com.

“True Evel” will tell the story of Knievel, the motorcycle daredevil who famously jumped the fountain at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and later tried to rocket over the Snake River Canyon in Idaho (he failed, but lived to tell the tale).

The documentary will air Oct. 14 and will use archival and interviews with friends and acquaintances — revealing a darker side to Knievel, who died penniless at the age of 69 in 2007.
