Bill DeBlasio blasts Cuba on Cuban-American’s show

Left-leaning Democratic mayoral candidate Bill deBlasio criticized Cuba Friday when he went on a radio show hosted by a Cuban-American.

Asked what he learned in the country where he chose to honeymoon two decades ago, deBlasio pointed to its most obvious  flaws.

“I didn’t go on a trip to fully study the country. I don’t pretend to have full perspective of the country,” he said on WADO radio.

“I have a huge critique of the current government there because its undemocratic and it doesn’t allow freedom of the press and I think there’s a huge number of problems.I also think its well know that there’s some good things that happened, for example in health care.”

But the Cuban-American host didn’t accept that commonly repeated assessment of Cuba’s medical care.

“You know they don’t have in Cuba the thread to have to have stitches done for people who get cut. But that’s your opinion of the health care situation in Cuba. I hear otherwise,”he said.

deBlasio didn’t respond.
