IT WAS a lousy joke — “beyond flawed” — and last night, David Letter man apologized again for a bawdy crack he made about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter.
On his “Late Show,” Letterman explained that the joke, which some thought referred to Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, was actually targeted at Bristol, 18.
“I told a bad joke. I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception,” he told viewers.
The Palins and a mass of viewers were outraged.
“It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault that it was misunderstood,” Letterman told his audience.
“So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke.”
