CHARTER LAWS GIVE U$ EDGE

New York state’s position on charter schools has positioned it well to rake in federal funds, according to a new study.

Among the 41 states with charter-school laws, New York ranked sixth for creating an environment where strong charter schools can thrive, according to the Center for Education Reform, a non-profit policy group.

That high-ranking “B” grade should help when the office of Education Secretary Arne Duncan divvies up a $5 billion education pot, according to the study.

Only three localities — top-ranking Washington DC, Minnesota and California — earned “A” grades from the group.
