HAIL KING HOWARD

The most impressive Rolodex in New York came to life yesterday when politicians, powerbrokers and pop-culture icons feted public-relations guru Howard Rubenstein as he received a prestigious award from his alma mater.

St. John’s University is where it all started for Rubenstein, who got his law degree there 50 years ago, soon after starting the p.r. firm that put him on half the city’s speed dials.

Gov. Paterson, Ivanka Trump and Al Roker were among guests at The University Club in Midtown to see Rubenstein receive the university’s Caritas Medal, honoring his charitable work.

Rubenstein said he has a simple formula for success.

“You have to work hard in order to succeed,” Rubenstein said. “You have to be passionate about what you do.”

Rubenstein, who also represents the Yankees, appeared touched by a gift from owner George Steinbrenner.

The Boss’ daughter, Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal, unveiled a pair of seats from the old Yankee Stadium, and Rubenstein beamed like a boy at his first ballgame.
