NYPD is fighting a bill that would force traffic agents to include photographs with most parking summonses because eliminating “frivolous” tickets would hurt the city’s revenue stream, City Council members charged yesterday at a heated meeting.
“It was clear to me that most of the resistance to this has to do with not wanting to cut the revenue that it produces,” bill co-sponsor Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) said after a heated hearing at City Hall. Snapping violations would halt bogus tickets, the pols said.
“My bill would decrease unreasonable, inappropriate and frivolous tickets,” said bill sponsor James Vacca (D-Bronx).
NYPD brass said camera-equipped ticket-writing machines cost too much.
The NYPD put the cost at $60 million over seven years, though Vacca said it would be more like $25 million.
