Last season, “True Blood” fans got an eyeful of stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer repeatedly getting it on as skittish mind-reading waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire lover Bill Compton.

Just about anything worked as an excuse for Paquin and Moyer – not to mention Jason Stackhouse (co-star Ryan Kwanten) and his numerous bedfellows – to flash naked boobs and rear ends at the camera whether it was in a bed, in the middle of the living room or while covered in dirt. And fans loved it just as much as they loved the show’s gooey gore factor.
(There are some fans who turn their noses up at the sex scenes though, thinking that if there were less of them, there’d be more room to showcase beloved characters from the book, such as Elvis-oriented Bubba, who have so far been left out of the TV series.)
It’s no different this season, with Paquin and Moyer getting off to a good start by indulging in a lot of gratuitous make-up sex midway through the first episode.
But, now that Paquin and Moyer have admitted that they’re actually dating in real life, their sex scenes have gone from being merely titillating as they were in the first season to suddenly voyeuristic in the second.
Watching Moyer (as Bill) stare hungrily at Paquin’s (as Sookie’s) half-naked and prone body before he shucks her skirt and underwear off in one swift movement feels uncomfortably wrong. Ditto for the scene when the two of them are joined at the groin.
It’s hard to ignore the feeling that you’re watching the duo at home, in their personal bedroom, instead of in Bill’s dilapidated Bon Temps mansion. Ick.
Many actors will say that filming a love scene is about as unsexy as you can get. Yet, the chemistry between Moyer and Paquin is so effective – no doubt amplified by their real-life romance – that the only thing that reminds you that you’re not intruding on a personal moment is the fact that fake movie blood starts pouring from Paquin’s neck and mouth when Bill’s fangs come out to play.
