5 QUESTIONS FOR … RAY LUCAS

THERE are a lot of question marks for the Jets as they open training camp tomorrow. SNY analyst and former Jets quarterback Ray Lucas talked with The Post’s Justin Terranova to provide some answers, like who should be their starting quarterback.

Q: What does Kellen Clemens have to do in camp and preseason to win the starting quarterback job over Mark Sanchez?

A: The $30 million Sanchez is making is a big incentive to get him in there, but if you look at it from Clemens’ side: How much humble pie is this kid supposed to eat without saying a word and being a class act? He played behind the worst offensive line in the league two years ago and last year was set to battle Chad Pennington before Brett Favre came. But to me, Clemens has to have a perfect training camp to even have a chance to get the starting nod.

Q: How much does Sanchez’s limited experience in college concern you?

A: I am not knocking Sanchez, because he hasn’t taken a snap yet in the NFL and he did show he was a winner in college. But it’s a lot of pressure on this young kid, especially in New York. If you (stink), you are going to know you (stink). This game is 10 times faster than college and I don’t care where you went to college — USC or wherever.

Q: What are your thoughts on how Rex Ryan will do as a head coach?

A: I played under Bill Parcells and he could be the greatest man I ever met. Rex Ryan didn’t coach under Parcells, but I played in Baltimore my last season in the NFL and I can tell you Rex Ryan is cut from the same cloth. He is going to tell you how he feels.

Q: It sounds like Vernon Gholston at linebacker will start for the suspended Calvin Pace. What does he have do to bounce back from that awful rookie season?

A: Whatever he does is going to be better than last year. There is nothing harder than your rookie year and when you are trying to learn a complex defense, you end up thinking instead of reacting when you are out there. In Rex Ryan’s defense, he is going to be able to go after the quarterback, which is his forte.

Q: Can the Jets start the season with this group of receivers?

A: They can’t survive with what they’ve got. I am not taking anything away from (David) Clowney or (Chansi) Stuckey, but for Jerricho (Cotchery) to be really effective they need someone that’s going to stretch the field. They should have addressed that situation in the draft, especially with no receivers being taken early. When they moved up that’s what they should have done, but that goes back to me being a Kellen Clemens fan.
