With ‘things on table,’ in-shape slugger hasn’t heard from Mets

Gary Sheffield says his 41-year-old body is ready for the rigors of a 22nd major-league season. Now it’s just a matter of deciding if he wants to do it.

“There are things on the table that I have to accept or not accept,” the former Mets and Yankees slugger told The Post on Wednesday. “Right now I have not made up my mind.”

According to Sheffield, the Mets, who could use lineup muscle, haven’t contacted him. Sheffield batted .276 (74 for 268) with 10 homers and 43 RBIs in 100 games (64 in the outfield) a year ago for the Mets. He was second to Daniel Murphy (12) in homers.

“I have a few things to weigh,” said Sheffield, who hit his 500th homer as a Met and has 509. “When you get ready to go through a spring training you have to make sure it’s worth it.”

Sheffield said his body is ready for the challenge.

“I am in tip-top shape,” Sheffield said. “I am healthy and I have been working to get back to where I need to be. I am feeling great and I lost 15 pounds, down to 212.”

Feeling good enough to play the outfield regularly?

“At 212, I could run for days,” said Sheffield, who has a career .292 average; 2,689 hits; and 1,676 RBIs.
