Toyota’s recall was too late for an elderly Queens couple who said they were the latest victims of its sticky accelerators yesterday.
Jerry Silver, a spry 86-year-old who stormed Omaha Beach in 1944, was driving home along Queens Boulevard with his wife, Rosalyn, 85, around 3 p.m. when he said the accelerator stuck on his 2009 Camry — one of millions of recalled Toyotas.
“What a helpless feeling, you have no idea,” said a banged-up Silver from New York Hospital Queens.
“All of a sudden, it starts to speed up . . . the harder I braked, the faster it went . . . I’m stepping . . . and she’s going faster,” he said.
Seconds later, Silver lost control of the vehicle, collided with two parked cars and finally came to a stop on the steps of the Forest Hills Jewish Center.
