Jets’ Sanchez surgery today

The rest of Mark Sanchez’s NFL career begins today at Morristown Memorial Hospital when he undergoes surgery on his left knee.

Jets orthopedists Dr. Elliott Hershman and Dr. Ken Montgomery will perform the surgery, which is designed to stabilize the area around Sanchez’s left patella.

As Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and Sanchez have indicated, the surgery will have Sanchez ready to participate fully in training, which begins in July. Because the recovery time is about two months, it is likely Sanchez will be limited in offseason organized team activities (OTAs) and perhaps spring minicamps.

* According to a report in the Syracuse Post-Standard, the Jets are seeking about $200,000 from state economic development agencies or other sources to offset the cost of returning their training camp to SUNY-Cortland for a second consecutive summer.

According to the report, Jets owner Woody Johnson discussed the need for financial aid with Sen. Charles Schumer in a recent phone conversation, the senator said.
