New twist in case of slain homeless hero

The woman rescued by a homeless man during an assault on a Queens street last week may have known her attacker — and that’s why she hasn’t come forward in the case, police sources said yesterday.

Hugo Tale-Yax, 31, a homeless immigrant from Guatemala, died after he intervened in a violent fight between the man and the woman on April 18 in Jamaica.

Newly released video footage taken by nearby surveillance cameras and obtained by The Post appears to show the woman about a half-hour before the attack laughing and stumbling as she’s walking with a woman and man down the block.

A few minutes later, she appears walking back up the block, only this time, she is alone and looks at least once over her shoulder. A man is soon seen following her, and Tale-Yax then comes into the frame further away.

After the stabbing, the unknown man and woman ran in separate directions.

After he was stabbed, Tale-Yax lay on the sidewalk for nearly two hours, with as many as 20 people passing by but doing nothing.
