Misty-eyed Quinn’s Council farewell

Speaker Christine Quinn was moved to tears at her final City Council meeting Thursday when a close political ally took to the floor to praise her.

“You are smart, you are funny, you are good,” Councilman James Oddo (R-SI) told Democrat Quinn at the current council’s last meeting, adding he was fed up with attacks against her during the mayoral race. The two later hugged.

Quinn, who was badly beaten in September’s Democratic primary for mayor, will be out of office next year for the first time since 1999.

The council also passed new restrictions on e-cigarettes and foam packaging.

At the end of the lengthy session, Quinn delivered a farewell to colleagues and staff that recalled her heyday.

“We were tough,” she declared. ‘We didn’t take any s–t.”
