Jury awards Prince Jefri’s former attorneys $10M

Two British attorneys have won a multimillion-dollar tussle with Brunei’s Prince Jefri Bolkiah. They said he owed them millions of dollars in fees.

A New York City jury on Wednessday awarded husband-and-wife legal team Faith Zaman Derbyshire and Thomas Derbyshire more than $10.1 million. The jury awarded about $54,000 to the prince, who said the Derbyshires stole from him.

Jefri said the Derbyshires exploited his trust to steal at least $7 million from him in various schemes. They said he authorized everything they did.

Jefri is a brother of the sultan of Brunei. The trial gave jurors a glimpse of his jet-set lifestyle as a member of one of the world’s richest royal families.
