Sex & Relationships

This week’s couple: Hello, again

When Constance, 28, chose Mike, 30, for their blind date at the Chelsea eatery Pounds and Ounces, their encounter was serendipitous. They had met once before, an encounter at a coffee shop where Constance was a customer and Mike was waiting tables. So did the almost strangers become closer after meeting again for the very first time?

He said:

Constance showed up on time, approached me and said, “I know you.” I recognized her, too. I wait tables, and she’s been a customer before. (Obviously, we both left an impression.) My nervousness was gone, as was my opportunity for my first real blind date.

Constance was great. She laughed at my jokes. It’s always nice when a woman laughs at my jokes.

We shared lobster corn dogs and the peanut-butter waffle dessert. Entrees were selfishly devoured on our own.

I had a great time. We exchanged our information and will be getting together again. However, I don’t think we hit it off on a romantic level. But then again, who knows what the future will hold?

She said:

It turned out I had met Mike before. He worked at a cafe I went to sometimes. I didn’t find that awkward at all. I thought, “Okay, New York City is a small place.”

We talked about our experiences in the city. His desire to stay here is interesting. A lot of people who aren’t from New York eventually go home. He has zero desire.

He told me about “When Harry Met Sally.” I hadn’t seen it yet, so I asked him if he could tell me what it was about, he just said, “No.” That straightforwardness was just super-cool and funny.

He actually encouraged me to get “When Harry Met Sally,” so I have every intention to stay in touch. He’s a nice person, and there’s definitely room for a friendship.
