Sheldon Silver ‘snoozes’ at Sandy conference

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver appeared to grab some shut-eye Tuesday while Gov. Cuomo and Vice President Joe Biden were discussing infrastructure improvements — at length.

The governor and the VP spent an hour talking about Hurricane Sandy rebuilding efforts, as Silver and other officials sat silently at an Albany meeting. Photographers snapped photos of Silver apparently catching a few winks.

Silver spokesman Michael Whyland insisted his boss was simply looking down at a monitor that laid out the governor’s $17 billion rebuilding plan. He said it’s “ridiculous” to assume Silver was snoozing.

During the session, Biden complained that America’s transit hubs are antiquated.

“You’re exactly right about the airports,” Cuomo answered. “Even here in New York, La Guardia and JFK are inexcusable, frankly, that they haven’t been redeveloped to keep pace with the best international airports.”
