GOLF: Love closing in at McGladrey

Davis Love III got himself into the final group at the McGladrey Classic in St. Simons Island, Ga., with a 4-under 66 to trail Arjun Atwal by one shot. Atwal, who only has two tournaments left in a last-ditch effort to keep his PGA Tour card, had a 63 to take the lead going into the weekend.

A baseball official familiar with the discussions says the Red Sox have asked the Blue Jays for permission to talk with their manager, John Farrell, about the opening in Boston. The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the request to the Associated Press last night.

Shavonte Zellous scored a career-high 30 points to help the Indiana Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx 76-59 in Indianapolis to take a 2-1 lead in the WNBA Finals. The Fever can win their first title at home tomorrow (8 p.m., ESPN2).
