Zac Posen

The Who: Zac Posen’s show last season had so much star wattage that it seemed there was a crippling power outage somewhere downtown. Naomi Campbell walked, Lourdes Leon refused photos and Kelly Osbourne’s purple hair was seen sashaying through the crowd. This season, however, was a more low key experience at the Plaza. Socialite waif Michelle Harper and Leigh Lezark, both regulars, were there to support their guy. The rest of the boldface crowd was presumably snowed in or attending the Grammys, as they’ve been absent for most of the week.

The What: There’s nothing that makes one feel more like a refined creature than attending a Zac Posen show: floating top models, beautifully transporting music and sumptuous digs. When it comes to the clothes, Posen does gowns like Blake Griffin does slam dunks. That would be, pretty damn well. There were some show-stopping architectural numbers, but mostly his dress repertoire had more fluidity with embroidered chiffons and less tummy sucking structure. Deep burgundies, vibrant rusts and midnight blues were seen on everything from tweeds to satins, velvets and chiffons.

The Highlight: An embroidered duchess gown done in citrine left a few audible gasps in its wake.

The Takeaway: We’re practically guaranteed to see some of his Hollywood devotees tapping this collection for future spins on the red carpet.
