HOOPS: Indiana rips Ohio St.

Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 26 points to lead No. 1 Indiana (21-3, 9-2 Big Ten) in an 81-68 victory at No. 10 Ohio State (17-6, 7-4).

Mason Plumlee had 19 points and hit the game-winning free throw with 26 seconds left to help No. 4 Duke (21-2, 8-2 ACC) rally to a 62-61 victory at Boston College (10-13, 2-8).

Orlando rookie forward Andrew Nicholson was chosen as a replacement for the Pistons’ Andre Drummond (back injury) for the Rising Stars Challenge game at this week’s All-Star weekend in Houston.

TENNIS: U.S. ousted

The United States was eliminated in the first round of the Fed Cup, losing to Italy 3-2 in Rimini, Italy, when Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci defeated Varvara Lepchenko and Liezel Huber, 6-2, 6-2, in the decisive doubles match. The U.S. led 2-1 after Lepchenko beat Errani 7-5, 6-2 in yesterday’s first reverse singles. But Vinci stopped Jamie Hampton 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to set up the decisive doubles match.

Joining Italy in the semifinals will be the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia.

Argentine Horacio Zeballos defeate Rafael Nadal 6-7 (2) 7-6 (6) 6-4 to win the Chilean Open. … Marin Cilic of Croatia defeated Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3, 6-1 to win the Zagreb (Croatia) Indoors … Frenchman Richard Gasquet beat compatriot Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-3 in the Open Sud de France final in Montpellier, France.

SOCCER: Nigeria wins Cup

Nigeria won its first African Cup of Nations title since 1994, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

ETC.: Vonn has surgery

Lindsey Vonn had surgery on her right knee that “went well” after she shredded two ligaments during a crash last week at the skiing world championships.

Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski will face a disciplinary hearing with the NHL today amid biting allegations. Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty said Grabovski bit him during a fight at 11:30 of the third period in Toronto’s 6-0 win Saturday.

Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, who on Saturday won his first stakes race since starting his comeback last month, won another race at Santa Anita yesterday, guiding Purim’s Dancer to a breakaway win in the $75,000 Wishing Well stakes.
