The pictures that made AOL’s Armstrong flip

AOL CEO Tim Armstrong’s callous decision to fire an employee for taking his picture during a conference call has haunted the executive and AOL for much of the last week. And now the alleged photos have surfaced online.

The pictures were posted on Jimromenesko.com earlier today. They were obtained from a tipster who grabbed them when they briefly appeared online.

Last week during a conference call with a 1,000 employees about the sad state of AOL’s local news network Patch, Creative Director Abel Lenz snapped a couple photos of his boss. The activity, something Lenz had done before, caused Armstrong to fire him on the spot.

“Abel, put that camera down. Abel, you’re fired. Out!” Armstrong said after he noticed what Lenz was doing.

The photos don’t show much of anything, making Armstrong’s action seem all the more rash.
