Boy, 5, hurt after falling from Coney Island roller coaster

Near-tragedy struck a Coney Island amusement park last night when a 5-year-old boy fell from a kiddie roller coaster after becoming unfastened and seriously gashed his leg, cops said.

The child was riding the Sea Serpent Roller Coaster in Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park on the boardwalk at about 7 p.m. when he somehow slipped from the safety harness and became wedged beneath the car, according to park officials.

“There was blood all over him,” said witness LeRoy Mace, 40. “They just left him there. He wasn’t moving. He had a bad cut on his leg.”

The vice president of the amusement park said the boy got scared and tried to jump off the ride as it was moving.

“He managed to get out from underneath the restraining device and got caught in between the car and roller coaster,” said Dennis Vourderis. “He just wiggled his way out.”

Vourderis said the boy was riding in the car with his sister, and their mother was watching.

The child suffered a severe cut to the leg and a laceration to the face, according to a law-enforcement source.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan and was listed in stable condition.

His sister suffered minor injuries in the incident and was transported to Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn.
