Wrestler ‘comes out’ fighting

IN HIS CORNER: Fellow wrestlers, the WWE and his family all spoke out in support of Darren Young’s revelation that he’s gay. (WWE)

He’s no longer wrestling with his sexuality.

Beefcake WWE battler Darren Young drop-kicked the testosterone-driven pro-wrestling establishment by announcing that he’s gay.

The startling admission makes Young the first active pro-wrestling star in a major organization to proclaim his homosexuality.

Few wrestlers would make such an announcement, even under the duress of a punishing submission hold.

But Young, 33, voluntarily came out Wednesday when asked in an impromptu interview if gays would be accepted in the sport. “Absolutely,” Young told TMZ.com after getting his bags at Los Angeles International Airport. “Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”

Young, whose real name is Frederick Rosser — and who wrestled for a while under the name “Frederick of Hollywood” — sounded at ease with his coming out, even if it conflicts with his Twitter bio.

“As comfortable in the VIP section as he is in the ring,” the bio says. “Darren Young’s life revolves around three things: money, women and wrestling.”

Reports said Young last year even dated fellow wrestler Tamina Snuka, the daughter of high-flying wrestling legend “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.

Young’s proud mom said she was in his corner.

“I know my son, and I knew he was gay, and I have no problem with it whatsoever,” Robin Rosser, 51, told The Post. “I support my son in whatever he wanted to do in life. I support him, and his father supports him also.

“I learned about it maybe two years ago. He just told me, ‘Mom, um, I think I’m wrestling with my sexuality, and I think I’m gay.’ And I was like, ‘OK. I support you.’ ”

World Wrestling Entertainment issued a statement in support of Young, whose announcement was trending on Twitter for part of the day.

“WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality,” the statement said.

Other wrestlers tweeted their support.

“Congratulations, @DarrenYoungWWE for living YOUR life, YOUR way,” said wrestler Triple H.

“ENORMOUS courage out of @DarrenYoungWWE today! U should be very proud of urself Darren!” tweeted wrestler Matt Morgan.

Hours after the announcement, Young posted a tweet of his own.

“Never b bullied n2 silence. Never allow yourself 2 be made a victim. Accept no ones definition of your life; DEFINE YOURSELF” Young wrote.

Earlier this year, NBA journeyman Jason Collins became the first active openly gay athlete in one of the four US major sports leagues. Collins, 34, made the announcement in an April Sports Illustrated cover story.
